Anterior nasal mucosal changes secondary to chronic nasopharyngeal obstruction from enlarged adenoids "the small purple turbinate syndrome"
Description |
: |
When the air flow through the nasal cavity ceases as result of enlarged adenoids, a characteristic secondary change in the mucosa of the anterior nasal cavity may be observed.
This change consists of a state of vasoconstriction and purple discoloration of the mucosa of the anterior portion of the inferior turbinates.
These changes result in a wider than normal anterior air space and pale purple small inferior turbinates. Such changes should not be misinterpreted as an allergic rhinitis. |
