The Normal Tympanic Membrane
Keratin Patches

Keratin Patches

Description : Small radially oriented tiny white patches or mounds of keratin squames can be seen if the examiner looks carefully, on the surface of the normal tympanic membrane.

These patches consist of older and thicker collections of keratin squames that have migrated centrifugally from the central portion of the tympanic membrane.

The keratin patches are visible in the posterior inferior quadrant of this normal left tympanic membrane.
