Normal Tympanic Membrane with Prominent Pars Flaccida

Description : The lower 4/5 of the tympanic membrane [the pars tensa] has a thick fibrous middle layer which gives the tympanic membrane its shape.

The upper fifth of the tympanic membrane lacks a fibrous middle layer and is referred to as the "pars flaccida"

This patient has a particularly prominent par is flaccida which can be clearly seen in the 12 o'clock position.
